Practise Chinese conversation with an AI partner
23 role-plays set in mainland China, from ordering bubble tea at A0 to a formal business dinner at C1. Type in characters or pinyin; the AI replies in Simplified characters, with pinyin on every sentence at A0 and A1.
A role-play at A0: bubble tea
你好!你要什么?(Nǐ hǎo! Nǐ yào shénme?)
我要一奶茶。
好的,一杯奶茶。大杯还是小杯?(Hǎo de, yì bēi nǎichá. Dà bēi háishi xiǎo bēi?)
What Mandarin learners get corrected on
- Measure words: 三本书, 两杯咖啡.
- 是 before adjectives: 我很忙, not 我是很忙.
- Time before the verb: 我明天去北京, not 我去北京明天.
- 没 for the past: 我昨天没去, not 我昨天不去.
Corrections link to the lesson behind them, and a lesson you have already done comes back into review. Tones rarely show up in a typed chat, so practise them on the tones page.

Questions
How can I practise speaking Chinese without a partner?
Role-play the situations you will meet in China, such as a taxi to your hotel or a high-speed train ticket, with the AI as the other person. Speak where your browser supports Mandarin speech recognition, or type. Tones need their own practice: read sentences aloud in Speak and use the tones page.
Is there a free AI to practise Chinese conversation?
Yes: 150 AI messages a day. Three work as a guest; after that, create a free account.
Can I type in pinyin?
Yes. Write in characters or in pinyin, whichever you can. The AI always answers in Simplified characters, adding pinyin with tone marks at the lower levels.
Will the AI correct my mistakes?
If you want it to. Corrections are folded under your message, each with a reason in English. Traditional characters, Taiwan usage and erhua are accepted, so 們 or 腳踏車 won't be marked wrong.
Is AI practice as good as a real tutor?
Not for tones. A teacher hears a third tone that doesn't dip; a text chat can't. For daily practice with measure words, 了 and word order between lessons, the AI is patient and free.
