Learn German online, free, from beginner to fluent
German in your browser, from A0 to C2, on the same guided path as SparkAI's other courses. The parts of German that trip English speakers up get lessons of their own, among them the four cases, adjective endings and verb-second word order. It teaches standard German as spoken in Germany, and Austrian and Swiss German are explained and always accepted.
How it works
- Start at your level. Begin from zero with a two-minute first lesson, or take the adaptive placement test.
- Press Continue each day. The app picks the next lesson, review, story or listening session.
- Learn it once, keep it. Words and grammar come back with spaced repetition (FSRS) just before you'd forget them.
- Use it. Read graded stories, listen, and talk with the AI partner at your level.

Questions
Which German does SparkAI teach?
Standard German (Hochdeutsch) as spoken in Germany, with the current official spelling: dass, muss, Straße. Austrian and Swiss Standard German are explained where they differ and never marked wrong: Jänner for Januar, Grüezi and Servus, Velo for Fahrrad, and the Swiss ss in place of ß are all accepted.
Is the German course free?
Yes. Every German lesson, flashcard, story and audiobook is free, with no ads and no card details asked for. AI features have a daily allowance.
Do I need an account?
No. Pick German and start the first lesson; progress is saved in this browser. After three guest prompts, AI chat asks for a free account, and that account also syncs your German progress to other devices.
Can I learn German and another language at the same time?
Yes. Pick the language you're learning in a dropdown on the first screen or in Settings: French, Spanish, German or Mandarin Chinese. Each language keeps its own course, level, flashcards and progress, and switching never mixes them.
