How it speaks at each level

A0–A1 (about HSK 1–2): Short 是, 有 and 在 sentences, 吗 questions and the most common words, with the pinyin and tone marks after every Chinese sentence.
A2 (about HSK 3): 了, 过 and 着, 比, simple 把 sentences and complements, with pinyin only for words you may not know.
B1 (about HSK 4): Natural but clear Mandarin with 把, 被 and the common connectors. Pinyin on request.
B2 (about HSK 5): Natural spoken Mandarin with set phrases and common chengyu. Chinese only.
C1 and above (about HSK 6): Fully natural, idiomatic Mandarin that shifts between spoken, written and formal registers.

When you get a lesson answer wrong, the AI says in plain English what tripped you up (often a measure word, a tone mark or where the time phrase goes) and shows the rule beside it.

In the reader, ask what a word means in this sentence, or for a translation of the whole sentence.

Limits

The AI reads what you type, so it can't hear your tones; work on those in Speak and on the tones page. Like any AI it can be wrong, and the written lessons are the reference when something looks off. AI features are free up to 150 messages a day.

Questions

Can you learn Chinese with AI?

For practice, yes: you can try out 把 sentences, measure words and 了 with a partner who answers in characters and pinyin at any hour. Tones, characters and grammar still need to be learned in order, which is what the course is for.

Is there a free AI Chinese tutor?

Yes. Chatting in Mandarin, having your sentences corrected and asking why an answer was wrong all count towards 150 AI messages a day. As a guest you get three prompts; after that you need a free account.

Does the AI write pinyin?

At A0–A1 it puts the pinyin with tone marks after every Chinese sentence; at A2 only for words you may not know; from B1 only when you ask.

Does the AI make mistakes?

Sometimes, like any AI. That's why the 82 lessons are written separately and remain the reference; the AI adds practice and explanations.
