Practise German conversation with an AI partner
26 role-plays set in Germany, from buying Brötchen at the Bäckerei (A0) to a speech at a friend's wedding (C2). The AI plays the baker, the pharmacist or the landlord, in German pitched at your level.
A role-play at A2: at the Apotheke
Guten Tag! Was kann ich für Sie tun?
Ich habe eine Erkältung. Haben Sie etwas gegen der Husten?
Ja, hier ist ein Hustensaft. Nehmen Sie dreimal täglich einen Löffel.
Where German trips English speakers up
- Case endings: mit dem Zug, für meinen Bruder, einen guten Kuchen.
- Verb position: second in a main clause, last after weil or dass (…, weil ich müde bin).
- Der, die or das: the article decides every ending after it.
- Haben or sein in the Perfekt: ich bin gefahren, not ich habe gefahren.
- Separable verbs: ich rufe dich morgen an.
A correction usually carries the name of the lesson that teaches the point. Lessons you have already done become due for review again.
Germany by default, Austria and Switzerland accepted
The scenes take place in Berlin, Munich and other German cities, and the AI writes the standard German of Germany with ß. Austrian and Swiss forms are correct too: Jänner, Paradeiser, Velo, ich bin gesessen, and ss for ß.

Questions
How can I practise speaking German without a partner?
Use the role-plays as rehearsals for real errands: the Bürgeramt, the Apotheke, a WG-Casting. Say your answers into the microphone where your browser allows it, or type them. Reading sentences aloud in Speak helps with ü, ö and the two sounds of ch.
Is there a free AI to practise German conversation?
Yes, it's free. The daily allowance is 150 AI messages; after three as a guest you need a free account.
Will the AI correct my mistakes?
Yes, and you decide when you see the corrections: folded under your message, or straight away in “Correct me as I go”. Austrian and Swiss Standard German count as correct, so Jänner, Grüezi and ss in place of ß stay as you wrote them.
Should I say du or Sie to the AI?
Whatever the scene calls for, as with a person: Sie at the Bürgeramt or with a doctor's receptionist, du with your future flatmates. The role-plays are a safe place to practise switching.
Is AI practice as good as a real tutor?
For some things. A tutor will hear whether your ch and your r are right, and will notice when you avoid the dative. The AI is better at being there every evening, at no cost, for the 15 minutes you have.
