DELF B2 speaking
30 minutes to prepare, then up to 20 minutes: present your point of view on a short document, then defend it in a discussion. Practise out loud with an AI examiner.
The two parts
- Presentation (monologue suivi), about 5 to 7 minutes: say what problem the document raises, then give a clear, argued opinion with examples.
- Discussion (exercice en interaction), about 10 to 13 minutes: the examiner asks questions, disagrees, asks you to be more precise; you defend and nuance your position.
The grid
Each criterion gets 0, 1, 3 or 5 points; 3 means it's met at B2.
- Réalisation de la tâche : monologue suivi
- Réalisation de la tâche : exercice en interaction
- Lexique
- Morphosyntaxe
- Maîtrise du système phonologique
How to work on it
- In the preparation, write a plan, not a script: the problem, your position, two or three arguments with an example each.
- Open by naming the problem the document raises, in your own words, before giving your opinion.
- In the discussion, expect to be contradicted: concede a point (c'est vrai que…, mais…) and come back to your argument.
- Practise speaking for five minutes without notes on everyday debates, out loud, timing yourself.
Practise in SparkAI
With a free account, SparkAI's speaking practice runs the whole oral with an AI examiner: two subjects to choose from, a preparation timer, your presentation recorded, then follow-up questions you answer out loud. You get a grade on the grid with the words from your answers that justify it. The mock exams use the full 30-minute preparation. For everyday speaking, see conversation practice.
Questions
How long is the DELF B2 speaking test?
30 minutes of preparation, then up to 20 minutes with the examiner: a presentation of about 5 to 7 minutes, then a discussion of about 10 to 13 minutes.
What happens in the DELF B2 oral?
You draw two short documents and choose one. You identify the problem it raises, present your point of view with arguments and examples, then defend it in a discussion where the examiner questions and challenges you.
How is the DELF B2 speaking marked?
On the official 2022 grid: 5 criteria, each given 0, 1, 3 or 5 points, for 25 in all. The minimum for the section is 5 out of 25.
Can I practise the DELF B2 oral online?
Yes, with a free account. SparkAI's AI examiner gives you two subjects, times your preparation, records your presentation and asks follow-up questions you answer out loud; then it grades you on the grid. Speaking practice uses 10 minutes of preparation instead of 30; the mock exams use the full time.
Is pronunciation graded?
In the exam, yes (phonology is one of the five criteria). SparkAI judges it only from your recording, never from a transcript, and its grades are AI estimates not yet checked against human examiners.
