Quelqu'un, quelque chose, personne, rien
Somebody, something, nobody, nothing
These indefinite pronouns refer to people or things without saying exactly who or what.
The four pronouns

| quelqu'un = someone, anyone | personne (ne) = no one |
| quelque chose = something, anything | rien (ne) = nothing |
- Il y a quelqu'un ?Is anyone there?
- Quelqu'un a appelé.Someone called.
- Tu veux quelque chose ?Do you want something?
- Je n'ai vu personne.I didn't see anyone.
- Il ne dit rien.He's not saying anything.
Adding an adjective: de + masculine adjective
To describe them, add de + a masculine adjective:
- quelque chose de bonsomething good
- quelqu'un d'intéressantsomeone interesting
- rien de gravenothing serious
- personne d'autrenobody else
- quelque chose d'autresomething else
- J'ai rencontré quelqu'un de très sympa.I met someone really nice.
- Ce n'est rien de grave.It's nothing serious.
Quelque chose is masculine
Even though chose is feminine, quelque chose takes masculine agreement: quelque chose de beau.
